Crude it might look but its brazed HSS steel blade to mild steel chisel is extremely sharp for both hardwood to soft. Once sharpened HSS blade is low maintenance with just leather stropping to restore cutting edge. This HSS chisel from China is well proven for its sharpness on hard Ebony, Rose wood and other hard exotic wood carving.

Hand sharpening only with wet water stone. Do not use grinding wheel.
