Urea formaldehyde is a water base binder. It is hydroscopic and attracts moisture and cake. It is easily broken into lumps and readily dissolve in warm water. Can be used as a binder for particleboard, plaster of paris, calcium carbonate powder, cellulose fibres etc. To strengthen plaster, dry mix plaster powder with urea in 1:1 ratio by volume or by weight in lump form. Pulverise lumps and mix well before adding to gauging water in ratio of 3 parts by volume plaster/urea and 2 parts clean water. Mix to a smooth slurry before casting. Though slower to set, the resultant mix set as hard plaster impervious to water absorption. This strengthened plaster set is much similar to Jesmonite and more economical.
Note: Keep away from children and pets. Use and mix in well ventilated areas. In enclosed areas it can cause watery eyes and nausea caused by its natural sour pickle like fumes. Wear gloves as prolonged exposure can cause itch to sensitive skin. Urea formaldehyde is hydroscopic absorb atmospheric moisture forming lumps or block that can be crushed and readily dissolves in warm water soaked overnight. Lumps form is not a reason to return. Purchase only upon acceptance in lumps or powder form. The higher the solid content to gauging water the stronger the glue.
