Modelling clay commonly known as paper clay is reinforced with long paper cellulose fibres for added strength and workability. Dries extremely white. Air drying time for small items is 24 hours. Much longer if molding larger sculptures. Clay dries relatively crack free as its long fibres act like bridging reinforcement. Should crack occur just dampen cracks with water and patch with clay. Clay permit sanding when dried. Carves well wet or dried with wood carving tool. To join, best score both surfaces and apply modelling glue before attachment. Larger parts use bamboo skewers as internal reinforcement with plaster bandages if needed.
Clay whitness accept acrylic paints and recommended to matt seal clay porosities before painting. Surface sanding with fine mesh#800- 1200 sandpaper enhances finish. Gloss with super gloss or H20 covercoat.
Unused clay is best stored in plastic container with tight fitting cover and a damp sponge inside for humidity. All clay dry with shrinkages and loss of weight with moisture evaporation. Note package content is indicative norminal weight of 500g.
