A small but indispensable metal shim as all wood handles over time shrink and loosen the tool head. For work safety drive in the wedge with hammer into handle for a close and tight fit to tool head. Use one or two metal shims if necessary to expand the wood for a snug fit.
To lessen wood handle shrinkage, sponge on tung oil to penetrate and seal wood cells in the polymerization and curing process. Tung oil waterproof and seal wood against shrinkages or wood rot.
