Powder kiln wash to protect kiln shelves from over firing of glazes and clay bodies. Mix sufficient water with powder to a thin paintable slurry and brush on to the pre dampened shelf. On new shelves apply 2-3 coatings and let dry before firing. Apply only to the top surface only and avoid kiln walls, shelf underside and electrical kiln elements. Best to recoat every alternate firing as easier to scrap away over fired glaze drips. Should kiln wash layers flake in firing, scrap off and recoat again.
