A hard abrasive oxide mesh size #2500 for metal polishing, ceramic glaze formulation and as kiln wash or separator coating on the firing bat in event of glaze run off or glass melt down in over firing. Added to clay body to reduce firing shrinkage. Calcined grade alumina oxide have all impurities fired off from raw brown alumina grade.
Commonly used for stone polishing in revolving wet tumbler as an effective and cost saving polishing medium. Especially suited to polishing hard stones unlike cerium oxide for softer stones like opal. Convert into a polishing paste for machine felt wheel or leather wheel buff by blending with CMC and glycerin or paraffin o into a polishing paste.
Calcined alumina oxide is often the polishing medium used by knife makers for a mirror like metal finish as the final polish after passing Grit #2000 silicon carbide sanding.
