Oil stone are natural fine #1500 mesh more durable than water stone. Apply a drop or two light paraffin oil or sewing machine oil to hone and polish cutting tools. As you sharpen or hone the knife edge it leaves a black dirty oil film denoting metal removal. Sharpening at the correct angle will leave a fine honed edge razor sharpness. Thereafter leather strop for maintenance sharpening. Hand held or as a bench stone.
Fine natural oil stones are increasingly difficult to quarry with deleting deposits.
