Consisting of fine silicon carbide, anti rust wax compound and oil this polishing bar of 25g measuring approximately 74mm x 17mm x 14mm is for manual stropping applied to a leather strop. This is an aggresive compound for sharpening, rust pit holes removal and polishing. It can also use to dress a mechanical buffing wheel. This metal stropping and polishing compound removes fine serrations and burs on knife edges for a smooth ultra sharp cutting edge. A polished metal surface deters rust formation assisted by the anti rust compound. Polished surface offer less resistant for a smoother and cleaner cut. As a hard wax compound the bar can be use as a rubbing stick for rust removal. Apply gentle pressure and should wax build, rub over with polishing cloth or leather to resume cleaning.
The leather strop requires occasional maintenance by scrapping off the old compound and redressing with fresh compound. The scum removed contains metal particles removed from the cutting tool. It attracts to a magnet as a proof of compound efficiency in metal removal sharpening and polishing metal.
Compound is best used on kitchen/hunting knives, metal punches, awl, utility cutters, scissors, carving tools, wood or acrylic polishing. A mirror finish in metal is achieved with a mechanical buffing wheel or through constant repeated stropping on a leather strop dressed with metal stropping compound.
Stropping compound on a leather strop is the best sharpening companion for wood carvers especially working with hard wood. Hard wood dulls any sharp cutting edge quickly. Stropping compound restores the micro bevel edge sharpness with removal of burs, any wood resin, polishes metal all without rapid wear and alteration of edge profile unlike using an mechanical grinder. More important hand strop sharpening do not generate heat like a grinder that can alter metal hardness.
